"HEALTHY KIDS, BRIGHTER FUTURES"
Ensuring access to quality healthcare is fundamental to the well-being of our community. Dorado Cares is dedicated to bridging the gap in healthcare services by providing essential medical resources, preventive care programs, and health education. In Puerto Rico, many families face barriers to proper healthcare, leading to preventable illnesses and unnecessary suffering. By supporting our initiatives, you can help us expand healthcare access and improve the overall health outcomes for those in need, creating a healthier population for generations to come.

Hospital Pediatrico Universitario
Family Center

Program Overview
Dorado Cares is proud to announce the most significant initiative in our 2.5-year history—a $450,000 grant to build the first-of-its-kind Family Center at Hospital Pediátrico Universitario in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is not just any hospital—it is the island’s leading pediatric facility and the sister institution to Centro Médico, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the Caribbean. For families facing the unimaginable—the sudden hospitalization of a child due to trauma, serious illness, or chronic condition—this new Family Center will be a sanctuary. It will offer comfort, dignity, and essential resources at the moment they are needed most.
Today, when children are hospitalized at Hospital Pediátrico, families must rely on an inadequate, repurposed administrative room that lacks the warmth, space, and services necessary to support them during extended stays. For parents and caregivers already burdened with fear and uncertainty, the absence of proper facilities compounds the stress. This new 1,500-square-foot Family Center will change that. Thoughtfully designed and fully staffed by the respected Fundación Hospital Pediátrico, it will provide free, comprehensive emotional, social, and practical support to hundreds of families each year—and thousands in the years to come.
The Family Center will feature spaces and services tailored to real needs: private areas for sensitive conversations, a caregiver wellness room offering yoga and mindfulness, technology access with computers and chargers, and child life specialists providing therapeutic play and emotional support. Families will have access to hygiene supplies, food vouchers, transportation coordination, bilingual guidance, and a comforting coffee and snack corner. There will even be a dedicated breastfeeding area, playrooms for siblings, and in-room celebrations to lift spirits during long hospitalizations. Every element has been designed to reduce isolation, ease stress, and help families remain strong for their children.
This project is a direct reflection of Dorado Cares’ mission and the generosity of our community. Already, $250,000 has been raised from Dorado Residents towards our $450,000 goal, Your support will not only complete the build—$200,000 for construction, design, and furnishings—but will also fund the first four years of operations at $50,000 per year, ensuring the Center’s doors stay open and its services remain free for every family in need.
More than a building, this Center will be a beacon of hope. It will be the place where exhausted parents find rest, where siblings can play safely, and where caregivers can gather the strength to face another day. It is a tangible expression of compassion, built on the belief that when families are cared for, children heal better. By joining us in this effort, you are not just funding a facility—you are standing with families at their most vulnerable moments and helping to create a lasting legacy of care for Puerto Rico.

Program 14:
Proyecto Plentitud Alzeimers

Program Overview
In 2025, Dorado Cares kicked off the year by providing a grant to the Proyecto Plentitud Alzheimer’s initiative, aimed at supporting research and care for individuals in Puerto Rico affected by Alzheimer’s disease. To raise funds for this important cause, Dorado Cares sponsored a dedicated runner in their inaugural marathon, contributing $100 for each mile completed and ultimately raising an impressive total of $2,620. This event not only provided an exhilarating experience for the community and a personal challenge for the runners, but it also highlighted the critical importance of addressing Alzheimer’s—a condition that profoundly affects many families. Through this initiative, Dorado Cares proudly reaffirms its commitment to enhancing awareness and resources for those battling Alzheimer’s, fostering hope and support in the community.

Hospital Pediatrico Universitario - Holiday Season Ward Decorating

Program Overview
Dorado Cares continued its commitment to creating uplifting experiences for hospitalized children by participating in a festive ward decorating initiative in 2024. For an investment of just $4,000, the organization collaborated with local non-profits and corporations to transform the hospital environment into a vibrant, seasonal wonderland. This initiative not only adds an element of joy to the hospitals but also provides a playful escape for children confined to their rooms during the holiday season. By reimagining the hospital wards with cheerful decorations, Dorado Cares successfully brightens the spirits of young patients and their families, fostering a sense of community and hope.
