Dorado Cares is a community-driven foundation created by and for the residents of Dorado, dedicated to making a lasting impact across Puerto Rico. Our Board of Directors ensures that every dollar of charitable giving goes directly to those in need, as all administrative costs are fully covered by our founding partners. This commitment allows us to focus entirely on our mission—supporting the well-being of our communities through healthcare, education, disaster relief, and more.

WHO WE ARE

"We" are the heart and soul of Dorado Cares—hundreds of passionate residents who now call Puerto Rico home. From the tireless parents and youth who devote their time and expertise to keep Dorado Cares a 100% volunteer-powered force, to the generous donors who trust us to maximize every contribution, our strength lies in our collective commitment. Together, we tackle critical needs in healthcare, education, disaster relief, food security, and welfare, all with a shared purpose: ensuring the well-being of children and families across the island.

Mobile Food Distribution: Creating a mobile distribution service that delivers meals and grocery bags directly to underserved neighborhoods, making it easier for those with limited mobility to access food resources.

Nutrition Education Workshops: Offering workshops focused on healthy eating, meal planning, and cooking demonstrations that emphasize the use of affordable and culturally relevant ingredients.

Partnerships with Local Farmers: Collaborating with local farmers to create a farm-to-table program that allows community members to access fresh produce at reduced prices or through food voucher systems.

School Meal Programs: Working with local schools to enhance existing meal programs, ensuring that children receive healthy breakfast and lunch options, as well as weekend meal packs for families in need.

Senior Meal Delivery Services: Developing a meal delivery service specifically for elderly residents who may have difficulty preparing meals, providing them with balanced and nutritious options tailored to their health needs.

Community Gardens: Initiating community garden projects that encourage families to grow their own fruits and vegetables, promoting self-sufficiency and providing a source of fresh food.

Emergency Food Relief Funds: Establishing a fund to provide emergency food assistance to families facing temporary hardships, such as job loss or unexpected medical expenses.

Cooking and Gardening Classes: Organizing classes for both children and the elderly that teach cooking and gardening skills, fostering a sense of community while also addressing food insecurity.

Food Recovery Programs: Partnering with local businesses and restaurants to initiate food recovery programs that collect surplus food for redistribution to those in need, minimizing waste while feeding vulnerable populations.

DORADO CARES MISSION

1. Emergency Resources – A maintained resource pool of machinery and equipment such as fuel, generators, pressure washers, chain saws, trucks, water-tankers, tractors, trailers, graders, bob cats and other disaster and remediation assets for loan and use in the aftermath of natural disasters.

2. Community Relief – the direct provision of relief aid such as food, water, cleaning supplies, bedding, clothing, personal hygiene supplies, school supplies etc. to distribute at any time, especially during moments of hardship.

3. Direct Financial Aid to support PR Municipal infrastructure projects aimed particularly at youth recreation and sporting projects.

4. Social and Community Activities in PR aimed at greater integration, awareness and acceptance of all age, race, religion, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds.

5. Child Poverty and Welfare in PR focused on addressing food insecurity, access to healthcare and access to educational resources and opportunities.
